What is OnTrack?

The OnTrack Sask Marathon Program is a program partnership between the Saskatchewan Marathon, Craven SPORT Services, and Prairie Run Crew. The program offers a 12-week program to train for a 5K, a 14-week program to train for a 10K, and a 16-week program to train for a 1/2 Marathon. The program is designed to prepare runners for their 5K, 10K, and 1/2 Marathon SaskMarathon races on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Half marathon 16-week program starts on February 5, 2024.

10K 14-week program starts on February 19, 2024.

5K 12-week program starts on March 4, 2024.

OnTrack is geared to:

  • New runners looking to participate in their first race.
  • Runners aspiring to be their best by improving their pace / finish time.
  • People getting back into running after an injury or long break.
  • People who want to follow a training program specific to improving performance based on their current performance abilities.

  • NOTE: you must be registered for the 2024 SaskMarathon 5K or 10K or Half Marathon race to join the program

Before the program begins registered participants will receive:

  • Pace – each registered participant completes a 2K timed run or walk on their own and will be provided a link to determine their own pace.
  • Pre- program confirmation email includes what you need to participate and how to make the best of the program.

OnTrack will be delivered through weekly emails every Sunday for the 16 weeks, 14 weeks or 12 weeks leading up to the Saskatchewan Marathon. When you sign up, you get:

  • A link with a video instructions on how to determine your pace.
  • Weekly inspirational videos with Run and Race Tips, exercises, and nutrition advice.
  • Virtual coaching sessions from the team at Craven SPORT Services, Prairie Run Crew, and special guests.
  • Opportunity to ask questions directly to your coaches and get your questions answered personally

With this program you will:

  • Build strength and flexibility.
  • Improve your overall body mobility.
  • Learn how hydration and nutrition affects your performance.
  • Incorporate breathing exercises to help you relax and reduce stress.
  • Set up your weekly training schedule.
  • Understand the importance of rest days.

We’ll help you along the way!

  • Opportunities for “tune–up” mini-races will help you track your improvement. These races will be timed and organized in Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current, North Battleford, and more locations around the province – some free and some for a small extra cost. Information on these mini-races will be shared through the weekly newsletters
  • Participants can ask specific questions and get responses from our team of experts and coaches privately or address the entire group so everyone can benefit from the information.

Meet your Coaches

Bruce CravenCraven SPORT Services

Bruce is an internationally recognized Sport Physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach, with over 31 years of experience working with athletes in over 40 different sports, competing at provincial, national, international and Olympic/Paralympic competitions. Bruce has his Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Associate clinical professor at the University of Saskatchewan School of Physical Therapy, a sessional lecturer in the College of Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan, an instructor for the National Coaches Association of Canada, and a member of the Canadian Sport Center’s National Sport Medicine and Science Committee. Bruce is a highly-sought presenter who couples expertise with skilled teaching abilities.

Tarrant Crosschild – Prairie Run Crew

Tarrant trains with a high-performance running group in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and sharing his message of hope and restoration with people across North America. In 2015, along with his wife and four children, Tarrant founded Child of the Cross Running Clinics, which has reached thousands of youth to date. Through these clinics, Tarrant encourages Indigenous youth to live an active lifestyle and to make positive, healthy choices. Tarrant is also an ambassador of Brainsport Running Store in Saskatoon and an ambassador of New Balance Running Shoes.

Brandi Venne – Craven SPORT Services

Brandi is a passionate runner in Saskatoon, and was even coached by Craven SPORT Services physiotherapist and partner, Bruce Craven! She placed 2nd in the province for women in the 2023 Sask Marathon, and ran another marathon in 2 hours and 56 minutes in October of 2023. Brandi now competes in Masters track events, as well as coaches clinics for all levels at Brainsport in Saskatoon. She is also a certified CanFitPro, making her a great asset here at Craven. In her spare time, Brandi considers running both a love and an escape. Whether it’s an easy run listening to music and socializing with a friend, or doing a hard workout, running keeps her both sane and happy!
